A 6 week Media Training course that will be taking place at the SABC in Auckland Park. It is a media training program with a difference. The Workshop consists of various elements which include: Radio, Television, Presenting and much more. 

The course is presented by Samm Marshall and will feature different mentors that have mastered their craft in the various media sectors. The course consists of weekly sessions that will take place on a Friday or Saturday for three hours.

This is a very exciting course that will give you the ability to work in the Media industry and give you the tools to further your growth industry wide.

Week 1

INTRODUCTION

Every school that has been classified as previously disadvantaged will get a laptop, editing software, a dongle with a monthly limited amount of data and a camera. The legacy project will make sure that all the kids who have undergone The Leadership Media training will be able to use their newly acquired skills to the benefit of the school and the community at large. The website can also become a revenue generator as local businesses use the online platform to market and advertise their goods to the school and parents.

The Live Experience

Candidates experience actual TV conditions – live – with interviews and media landscape technology.

Understanding the Media

We give you an overview of the South African media industry, the major players and their target markets.

Interviews

You understand what journalists want and how editorial process work – and get the tools to deal with TV interviews.

Constructive Criticism

We identify the strengths and weaknesses of every company spokesperson, CEO and member of senior Management. You know what is needed to be your company’s most effective communicator on television.

HALF-DAY COURSE OUTLINE (8.00 -12.00 / 4 hours)

Theory

The current South African media landscape
Journalists and news values
Preparing for an on-camera interview
Dealing with the “hostile” interview
Handling difficult questions
The art of the sound bite
Different types of TV interviews & appearances
Body language and appearance for TV
Media platform for integrated systems

Practicals

Understanding the “live”TV environment – the studio, the lights
“Live” TV and radio interviews with each candidate
A playback session with critiquing and open discussion
Using the feedback to better advantage – the do’s & don’ts

The Cost

The cost has been kept to a bare minimum per child. To cover the cost of a six week program a minimal fee of R3500 per student is required

The workshops are aimed at learners at high school and primary level. The workshops will be conducted on a once a week basis, every Saturday for three hours from 10am – 1pm.
